Hwaseong City Establishes Gyeonggi Province’s First Dedicated Childcare Center

Strengthening Support to Fill Care Gaps for Dual-Income and Single-Parent Households
Increasing the Number of Caregivers from 306 to 380

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on January 5 that it will establish and operate the "Hwaseong City Childcare Center," a center dedicated exclusively to childcare services, starting this month. This is the first case of a dedicated center being operated by a city or county in Gyeonggi Province.

The childcare service provides in-home care by professional caregivers for children under the age of 12 in households where there is a gap in caregiving, such as when both parents are working.

In response to growing demand, the city will expand the childcare support program, which had previously been operated as a consigned service within the Hwaseong City Family Center, by establishing a separate center to operate it independently.

The center will be located within the Byeongjeom U&I Center. It will be responsible for recruiting and training caregivers, supporting the connection between service users and caregivers, providing information and promoting the service, and offering financial support for service costs.

Through the operation of this dedicated center, the city aims to improve access to childcare services for households that are more likely to experience gaps in caregiving, such as dual-income, single-parent, and low-income families. The city also plans to build a reliable public care system by systematically managing and training professional caregivers.

The service can be accessed by visiting the local administrative welfare center or by applying online through the Bokjiro platform. Households with an income at or below 250% of the median income are eligible for government support, which is provided on a sliding scale based on income level.

Along with the establishment of the center, the number of caregivers deployed for the service will be significantly increased from 306 to 380, reducing waiting times for citizens and providing stable, high-quality care services.

Jung Myunggeun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, stated, "We will continue to strive to make Hwaseong a city where both children and parents are happy, and a city recognized nationwide as an ideal place to raise children."
