Yangpyeong County Publishes Its First "Greenhouse Gas Reduction Budget" for 2026...8,100 Tons Below Target

County Sets Target to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 20,000 Tons in 2026
Exceeds Basic Plan Goal by 168%

Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jinseon) announced on January 5 that it has, for the first time, prepared, analyzed, and published the "Yangpyeong County Budget for Greenhouse Gas Reduction" for fiscal year 2026.

The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Budget System is a framework that takes climate impact into account from the budget planning stage in response to the global climate crisis. Yangpyeong County has prepared this budget document for the first time for 2026.

The budget categorizes each project into four types: projects that result in greenhouse gas reduction, projects that increase greenhouse gas emissions, neutral projects not directly related to reduction or emission, and projects with potential future impacts that could shift to either reduction or emission.

The 2026 Yangpyeong County budget covers a total of 4,642 projects across general accounts, special accounts, and funds, amounting to 957.668 billion won. Of this, the general account consists of 4,282 projects totaling 790.964 billion won, the special account includes 215 projects at 138.178 billion won, and funds comprise 145 projects at 28.526 billion won.

Among these, greenhouse gas reduction projects account for 184 projects-179 in the general account and 5 in the special account. The budget allocated is 45.656 billion won in the general account and 2.948 billion won in the special account.

The total expected greenhouse gas reduction from these 184 projects is 20,891 tons, which is an increase of 15,839 tons compared to the 2025 reduction of 5,052 tons. This figure also exceeds the 2026 target reduction of 12,000 tons set in Yangpyeong County's 1st Basic Plan for Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth by approximately 8,100 tons.

However, since it is difficult to determine goal achievement based solely on estimated reduction amounts, the final assessment will only be possible after the actual greenhouse gas emissions for 2026 are confirmed two years later.

By department, the number of reduction projects is as follows: 43 in the Cleaning Division, 40 in the Climate and Environment Division, and 26 in the Eco-friendly Agriculture Division. The expected greenhouse gas reductions are 9,614 tons for the Cleaning Division, 3,624 tons for the Climate and Environment Division, and 2,724 tons for the Eco-friendly Agriculture Division. Notably, the Cleaning Division is expected to account for 9,614 tons, or 46% of the total 20,891 tons reduction in 2026, indicating that waste management efforts are expected to yield significant results.
