Marine and ESG Integrated Education
To Be Provided to 40 Elementary School Classes Nationwide
National Pukyong University (President Bae Sanghoon) announced on January 5 that it has been finally selected as an operating institution in the specialized field (Type 2) for the '2026 Neulbom School After-School Program Supply Project,' organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity.
National Pukyong University received high marks for its top-tier expertise in marine and fisheries education in Korea and for offering differentiated content that integrates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) values into the educational field to address climate change.
With this selection, National Pukyong University will develop and introduce 11 new educational programs that combine Busan's geographical characteristics, the university's specialized area in marine and fisheries, and climate and environmental (ESG) fields. The programs are designed to focus on the importance of marine ecosystems and responses to the climate crisis, featuring play- and experience-based education tailored to elementary school students.
National Pukyong University plans to secure an annual project budget of 300 million won and provide customized Neulbom programs to 40 elementary school classes nationwide.
University experts participated in the program development. Professor Jinho Cho from the Department of Marine Industry Education (overall program supervisor) and Professor Taeho Lee (overall education feedback supervisor) enhanced the quality of the content, while Sangkil Lee, Head of the Educational Donation Hub Support Center (overall project supervisor), and Professor Songyi Lee (overall external cooperation supervisor) managed project operations and local collaboration. The Institute for Fisheries and Marine Education was responsible for research and development of educational content and effectiveness verification.
National Pukyong University aims to strengthen its social responsibility as a leading regional national university by contributing to narrowing educational gaps and enhancing the quality of public education through this project.
Sangkil Lee, Head of the Center, stated, "We will do our best to connect the university's marine and fisheries education infrastructure with the Neulbom School platform so that future generations can nurture their dreams through the ocean and grow into creative talents who practice ESG values."
