A taxi driver in his late 70s was urgently arrested by the police after causing casualties in a three-vehicle collision near Jonggak Station.
On January 3, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that they had arrested taxi driver Mr. A on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents (resulting in death or injury). After the accident, a rapid drug test revealed the presence of morphine in Mr. A's system.
The police believe that the morphine could have originated from prescribed medication such as cold medicine, and have requested a detailed analysis from the National Forensic Service.
At approximately 6:05 p.m. on January 2, Mr. A was driving an electric taxi when he suddenly accelerated, crashing into a traffic light pole at a crosswalk and two passenger vehicles. During the incident, a female pedestrian in her 40s was killed and 13 others were injured.
