Police Urgently Arrest Taxi Driver in His 70s for 'Jonggak Station Accident'...Positive Drug Test Yonhap News

On the morning of January 3, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that they had arrested taxi driver Mr. A on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents (resulting in death or injury). After the accident, a preliminary drug test detected the presence of morphine in Mr. A.

The police believe it is possible that the morphine came from prescribed medication such as cold medicine and have requested a detailed analysis from the National Forensic Service.

At approximately 6:05 p.m. on January 2, Mr. A was driving an electric taxi when he suddenly accelerated and crashed into a traffic light pole at a crosswalk and two passenger vehicles. In the process, a female pedestrian in her 40s was killed and 13 people were injured.
