Three-Vehicle Collision in Front of Jonggak Station, Seoul: Woman in Her 40s Killed, 9 Injured (Comprehensive)

At around 6:05 p.m. on January 2, a traffic accident occurred on the road in front of Jonggak Station in Jongno-gu, Seoul, involving a chain collision between two passenger cars and one taxi. A woman in her 40s died, and nine people were injured.

According to the fire authorities and others, a taxi sped toward the crosswalk and consecutively collided with two passenger cars. After striking the cars, the taxi crashed into a traffic signal pole at the crosswalk and then hit another vehicle in front before coming to a stop. During this process, the taxi also struck a pedestrian who was waiting for the crosswalk signal.


As a result of the accident, four people-including the taxi driver and passengers-and six pedestrians sustained injuries. Among the injured were four foreigners (three Indonesians and one Indian).


Among them, a female pedestrian in her 40s was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest while receiving CPR, but ultimately passed away.


One of the vehicles involved in the accident also caught fire.


The taxi driver who struck the passenger cars was identified as a man in his 70s.


The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and the identities of the injured.
