Singer Bumkey (real name Kwon Kibum) has been appointed as a civilian member of the Narcotics Countermeasures Council under the Office for Government Policy Coordination, his agency Brand New Music announced on January 2.

For the next two years, Bumkey will serve as an advisory member on overall drug policy. He is expected to provide policy recommendations in key areas such as drug crime prevention, addiction treatment and rehabilitation, and improving public awareness.

Bumkey has continuously engaged in social contribution activities, such as establishing a scholarship foundation for underprivileged youth. With this appointment, he will participate in public discussions on drug-related issues from the perspective of a cultural artist. As an artist who has influence among young people, he is determined to contribute to prevention-focused awareness improvement.

The agency stated, "It is meaningful for him to play a significant role in the socially important tasks of eradicating drugs and advancing rehabilitation policies."

Bumkey expressed his thoughts, saying, "As a civilian member, I will faithfully convey the voices from the field," and added, "I will do my utmost in my role to improve policies and enhance social safety."
