Kyungpook National University announced on January 1 that the average competition ratio for regular admissions for the 2026 academic year has risen significantly compared to the previous year, reaching 6.71 to 1.
According to Kyungpook National University, a total of 7,538 applicants applied for 1,123 available spots during the regular admissions period, which ran from December 29 to December 31.
This figure is a substantial increase from the previous year's overall competition ratio of 5.51 to 1.
By admissions group, highly competitive departments included the Department of Philosophy in the College of Humanities in Group A, which saw 78 applicants for 5 spots, resulting in a ratio of 15.60 to 1. The Department of Forest Ecology and Protection in the College of Ecology and Environmental Science had 56 applicants for 4 spots, with a ratio of 14.00 to 1.
In Group B, the Department of Statistics in the College of Natural Sciences had 67 applicants for 4 spots, resulting in a ratio of 16.75 to 1, while the Department of Biology in the same college had 91 applicants for 7 spots, for a ratio of 13.00 to 1.
The practical skills test for Group A (Arts) will be held on January 12, and for Group B (Physical Education), it will take place on January 16. The final list of successful applicants will be announced on the university website on February 2.
The registration period for successful applicants is from February 3 to February 5. Both early admission candidates (those who have completed online document registration) and regular admission candidates must complete registration within this period.
Announcements for additional successful candidates will be made from February 6 until 6 p.m. on February 12.
