Superintendent Lee remarked, "This year, Gwangju education achieved significant results," mentioning the production of a perfect scorer in the national college entrance exam, being rated 'Best' for two consecutive years in the provincial and metropolitan office evaluations, and winning the grand prize for career guidance case studies. He added, "2026 should be a year where these achievements become seeds for future growth."

The city office of education will incorporate 'fundamental education' into its four main areas and sixteen key projects for the new year. Support for 'students with borderline intelligence,' which was previously limited to elementary schools, will be expanded to secondary schools, and the 'dedicated elementary basic academic skills teacher system' will be implemented to strengthen basic academic abilities. To enhance the quality of classes, the office will introduce the 'Class Growth Certification System' and strengthen essay and written assessments.

To nurture future talent, the office will launch the 'Gwangju-Style Meister High School Preparatory Program' and continue the reading program 'Together with Books.' The language culture improvement project 'Dajeongdagam' will be implemented, and a new 'Complaint Consultation Room for the Protection of Educational Activities' will be established to reinforce teacher protection systems. The student support program 'Kkum Dreamy' will be expanded to include all students.

Global citizenship education and digital transformation will also be pursued simultaneously. The office will continue the 'Gwangju Student Global Leader Around the World' initiative and support for bilingual collaborative teachers, while expanding the 'Youth Politics School' and preparing for the opening of the 'Gwangju Democracy History Center.' Centered on the 'Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education AI Education Center,' which will open in January, the office will expand its AI and digital education infrastructure and establish intelligent science labs in 103 schools.

Superintendent Lee stated, "Despite changes in finances and curriculum, we have laid the foundation for a leap forward," adding, "In the new year, fundamental education and diverse competencies will guide the direction of Gwangju education."
