Jeong Cheongrae: "Shincheonji May Violate the Principle of Separation of Church and State"
Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, insisted that Shincheonji should also be included in the scope of the special investigation into the Unification Church's alleged political lobbying.
At the Democratic Party's on-site Supreme Council meeting held in Muan County, South Jeolla Province, on the 29th, Leader Jeong stated, "Since we are proceeding with a special investigation into the Unification Church, we must also include Shincheonji, which appears to have potential violations of the principle of separation of church and state."
He added, "The Democratic Party has made significant concessions by proposing a special prosecutor law that allows a third neutral body to recommend the special prosecutor, so I believe there is no reason for the People Power Party to reject this."
On this day, he also emphasized his commitment to achieving both reform and livelihood issues to secure victory in the June 3 local elections. Leader Jeong said, "In one hand, we have the liquidation of rebellion; in the other, livelihood reform," and pledged, "We will swiftly conclude the second comprehensive special investigation, the Unification Church special investigation, and the judicial reform bill as promised."
He further stated, "I will soon present the nomination schedule," and added, "We will eliminate unfair cutoffs, and anyone who qualifies as a preliminary candidate will, without exception, participate in the primary, achieving a nomination revolution with the participation of party members with voting rights."
Meanwhile, regarding the recent not-guilty verdict in the first trial of the 'West Sea public official killing incident,' Leader Jeong said, "Assemblyman Park Jie-won, who is here today, as well as former National Security Office Director Suh Hoon and former Defense Minister Suh Wook, have all been acquitted," adding, "I offer my consolation and congratulations to those who have suffered through years of agonizing hardship."
Leader Jeong stressed, "I urge the Minister of Justice to conduct a thorough inspection and investigation into those involved in this alleged fabricated indictment," and added, "If the investigation is insufficient, we will have no choice but to call for another special investigation to uncover the truth. I strongly request the Ministry of Justice to carry out a thorough inspection and investigation."
