Granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Founder Draws Attention with Court Appearance
Hwang Hana (37), the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, has been arrested for the third time on charges of drug use, and her fashion at the time of her court appearance has become a topic of discussion.
On the 26th, Hwang attended a pretrial detention hearing at the Suwon District Court Anyang Branch. She appeared wearing a long khaki padded coat, which was identified as a product from the luxury brand Rick Owens. The Rick Owens brand was established in 1994 by American designer Rick Owens and is well known for its unique and avant-garde designs that combine gothic and minimalism. The brand has gained recognition as celebrities such as G-Dragon and Kanye West are known to favor it. The padded coat Hwang wore that day is estimated to cost between 3 million and 4 million won in Korea.
Previously, in July 2023, Hwang was accused of administering methamphetamine to two acquaintances in Gangnam, Seoul. She became a subject of police investigation, but in December she left for Thailand and reportedly entered Cambodia illegally. Recently, she expressed her intention to turn herself in, and on the 24th, police arrested her aboard a domestic flight at Phnom Penh Techo International Airport in Cambodia. It is reported that Hwang denied the charges during police questioning.
Hwang stated that she decided to return to Korea to take responsibility for a child she gave birth to locally. In fact, it was reported that the child's father also entered the country with her on the same day. On the 26th, Seo Hyojin, the judge in charge of warrants at the Suwon District Court Anyang Branch, issued an arrest warrant for Hwang on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act, citing concerns about the destruction of evidence.

The police plan to continue an intensive investigation into how Hwang obtained and used methamphetamine, as well as to determine whether she committed other drug-related crimes in Korea or engaged in illegal activities overseas. A police official told Yonhap News Agency, "It appears we will use the full 10-day detention period at the police stage," adding, "We plan to refer the case to the prosecution early next year."
Meanwhile, Hwang is also known as the former fianc?e of Park Yuchun, a singer and actor formerly of the group TVXQ. She was indicted in 2019 for habitual methamphetamine use with Park and other acquaintances between May and September 2015, and was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence. The following year, she used drugs again during her probation period and served one year and eight months in prison. This is her third incarceration in four years.
