Granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Founder Draws Attention with Court Appearance
Hwang Hana (37), the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, has been arrested for the third time on charges of drug use, and her fashion at the time of her court appearance is drawing attention.
On the 26th, Hwang attended a pretrial detention hearing at the Suwon District Court Anyang Branch. She appeared wearing a long khaki padded coat, which is reported to be a product from the luxury brand Rick Owens. The Rick Owens brand was established in 1994 by American designer Rick Owens and is well known for its unique and avant-garde designs that combine gothic and minimalism. The brand has gained recognition as it is favored by celebrities such as singer G-Dragon and American rapper Ye. The coat worn by Hwang Hana that day is estimated to be priced between 3 million and 4 million Korean won in Korea.
Previously, in July 2023, Hwang was accused of administering methamphetamine to two acquaintances in Gangnam, Seoul. She became a suspect in a police investigation but left for Thailand in December and reportedly entered Cambodia illegally. Recently, she expressed her intention to voluntarily turn herself in, and on the 24th, police arrested her on a Korean national flight at Phnom Penh International Airport in Cambodia. It is reported that Hwang denied the charges during police questioning.
Hwang stated that she decided to return to Korea to take responsibility for a child she gave birth to locally. In fact, it was reported that the child's father also entered Korea on the same day. On the 26th, Seo Hyojin, the judge in charge of warrants at the Suwon District Court Anyang Branch, issued an arrest warrant for Hwang on charges of violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics, citing concerns about the destruction of evidence.

The police plan to continue an intensive investigation into how Hwang obtained and used methamphetamine, and will also look into whether she committed other drug-related crimes in Korea or engaged in illegal activities abroad. A police official told Yonhap News Agency, "It appears we will use the full 10-day detention period at the police stage," adding, "We plan to refer the case to the prosecution early next year."
Meanwhile, Hwang is also known as the former fianc?e of Park Yuchun, a singer and actor formerly of the group TVXQ. She was indicted on charges of habitual methamphetamine use with Park and other acquaintances from May to September 2015 and received a one-year prison sentence suspended for two years in 2019. The following year, she used drugs again during the suspension period and served a one year and eight month prison term. This arrest marks her third incarceration in four years.
