Crime revealed through confession call... Police: "Arrest warrant requested due to seriousness of case"
Had a history of mental illness... Silent 30s
A tragic incident occurred in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, where a man in his 30s suffering from a mental illness killed his maternal grandmother in her 80s, who had a physical disability.
On December 27, the Chungju Police Station announced that they had urgently arrested and were investigating Mr. A (in his 30s) on charges of parricide for allegedly beating his maternal grandmother to death with a blunt object. Mr. A is accused of killing his grandmother, Ms. B (in her 80s), with whom he lived in an apartment in Gyoheon-dong, Chungju, on the morning of December 26.
The details of the case came to light after Mr. A turned himself in. At around 8:40 p.m. on the day of the crime, Mr. A called the police and confessed to the act. Based on the condition of the body, including signs of decomposition and rigor mortis, police suspect that Ms. B was killed in the morning of the day Mr. A reported the crime, and they are working to determine the exact time of the incident.
It has been reported that, at the time of his call, Mr. A told police, "My grandmother asked me to kill her, so I did." However, during the formal investigation following his arrest, he has reportedly remained silent about the precise circumstances of the crime.
The investigation revealed that Mr. A, who has long suffered from a mental illness, had been living alone in the apartment with his physically disabled grandmother, Ms. B. Police are focusing their questioning on the specific details and method of the crime, and, given the seriousness of the case, plan to request an arrest warrant for Mr. A within the day.
