The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on December 26 that it has issued a public notice to collect opinions for the designation of six locations in Seoul, including Mokdong Station, as candidate districts for the Urban Public Housing Complex Project.
The Urban Public Housing Complex Project is a public-led initiative that accelerates housing supply in stagnant, aging urban areas where private redevelopment projects are difficult to implement, using a public acquisition method (in-kind compensation). LH introduced this project in 2021 and has since been promoting it at 46 sites, aiming to supply approximately 76,000 housing units.
The newly announced candidate districts include the area near Mokdong Station, Mok 4-dong near Gangseo High School, the west side of Goeunsan, Nokbeon-dong Neighborhood Park, the area near Songjung-dong Community Center, and Mia District 16. The total area covers 530,345 square meters, and if housing is supplied as planned, 14,012 units are expected to be built.
If more than two-thirds of residents (representing at least half of the land area) in the six candidate districts, including Mokdong Station, consent within one year from the designation date, the districts will be finalized as complex districts after reviews by the Central Urban Planning Committee and the Land Expropriation Committee. LH plans to expedite administrative procedures and encourage resident participation through meetings and other means to secure consent and complete the selection process by next year. Park Hyunkeun, Head of the Metropolitan Area Redevelopment Project Headquarters at LH, stated, "We will ensure that the follow-up procedures proceed smoothly so that housing supply in Seoul can be implemented as early as possible."
