Chuncheon City Accelerates Efforts to Create Streets Free of Illegal Banners
Tangible Results Seen in Palho Square and Jungang Rotary Area Maintenance
Effectiveness Enhanced Through Combined Enforcement, Citizen Reporting, and Designated Posting Boards
The "Creating Streets Free of Illegal Banners" initiative, currently being promoted by Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province (Mayor Yuk Donghan), is showing tangible results and receiving positive feedback from citizens.
According to Chuncheon City on December 25, the Palho Square and Jungang Rotary areas, which had long been chronic sources of complaints due to the indiscriminate proliferation of banners for various events and political purposes, have recently regained a pleasant pedestrian environment through intensive maintenance efforts.
The city is addressing the issue of illegal banners not only through enforcement but also by encouraging citizen participation. In addition to promoting the use of designated posting boards for legal advertisements, the city has established a reporting system that allows citizens to participate directly on-site by submitting complaints via KakaoTalk.
Previously, on December 18, Chuncheon City conducted a campaign to eradicate illegal banners in the Jungang Rotary area, with participation from political parties, the city council, and related organizations, joining forces to spread a culture of proper advertising and build social consensus on the issue of illegal banners.
According to city statistics, the number of applications for designated posting boards reached 19,040 as of September this year, indicating that a legal advertising culture is gradually taking root.
Chuncheon City plans to gradually expand the "Banner-Free Streets" initiative and strengthen campaigns and joint enforcement to reduce the occurrence of illegal banners. The city will also regularly hold meetings with political parties and civic groups to continuously develop effective improvement measures that reflect voices from the field.
A Chuncheon City official stated, "The changes in the Palho Square area demonstrate that our policy to eradicate illegal banners is producing results on the ground," adding, "We will continue to expand managed areas to simultaneously protect citizen safety and the urban landscape."
