According to the Bangkok Post on December 22, Golden Curry Bangkok, a famous curry restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand, recently discovered that a foreign participant who won 30,000 baht (1.43 million won) in a food challenge had committed fraud. The foreigner was caught on camera hiding rice in his clothing pocket during the challenge. The restaurant offers up to 30,000 baht in prize money to anyone who can finish 8 kilograms of curry rice within 45 minutes, and 10,000 baht for completing a smaller 6-kilogram menu.
The foreign man succeeded in the challenge on December 12. The restaurant announced his achievement on Facebook, posting, "8kg completed! Cleared with 5 minutes left out of 45, won 20,000 baht in prize money. Excellent performance, 10 out of 10!" He also succeeded in the 6-kilogram challenge and received prize money for that as well.
However, on December 18, the restaurant revealed the truth after closely reviewing CCTV footage. Through Facebook, the restaurant stated, "The man who succeeded in both the 6kg and 8kg challenges did so through cheating. He secretly put rice into his pocket. We advise other establishments hosting similar events to be cautious of this individual."
The restaurant explained that staff usually supervise the challenge process, but failed to notice the cheating on both occasions. After collecting a total of 30,000 baht in prize money, the man never returned to the restaurant.
