Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Donggeun) announced the 'Our Neighborhood Policy Roadmap: Songsan 3-dong Edition' on December 23, aiming to enhance residents' convenience and local value. This roadmap focuses on creating an ecological axis centered on Minrakcheon, reorganizing public facilities to be more resident-friendly, and expanding transportation infrastructure to broaden the living sphere.

A Living Ecological Axis Connecting Minrakcheon and Songsansaji... Where Nature and Daily Life Meet in Songsan 3-dong

In Songsan 3-dong, spaces where residents can relax in their daily lives are set to increase significantly, centered around Minrakcheon. The city recently created a 200-meter-long 'Emotional Rest Area' in the Minrak-dong greenbelt, installing trails and benches so citizens can enjoy the changing seasons.

The city developed the 'Emotional Rest Area' in the greenbelt near Minrakcheon (820-6 Minrak-dong), featuring a total of 200 meters of trails and rest spots. Along the earthen and stone-bordered paths, tables, benches, and swing chairs have been installed, and a variety of trees such as emerald green arborvitae, cherry trees, and hydrangeas have been planted, allowing visitors to experience the changing scenery throughout the year.

This space is connected to the pocket park along Minrakcheon (776-9 Minrak-dong), which was established in June, and is now used as a green space for daily walks and relaxation along the trail.

Along the Minrakcheon walkway (around 886 Minrak-dong), the city created the 'Mugunghwa Hill' last year by planting over 300 rose of Sharon trees. Developed through a Korea Forest Service project, this 3,570-square-meter area features information boards and tree labels, allowing visitors to naturally learn about Korea's national flower while enjoying a stroll.

The space under Gungchon Bridge over Minrakcheon was transformed in 2023 into a cultural rest area equipped with performance seating and media art, turning the riverside into a place where residents can gather and enjoy cultural activities.

In addition, 'Songsansaji Neighborhood Park' has become a space where history and garden culture coexist. Designated as a Gyeonggi-do Monument in 1977, this park features a traditional Korean-style garden, ponds, water features, and walking paths, providing a tranquil atmosphere for citizens to relax.

Notably, the garden pavilions-Nakyangwon and Myeongpungwon-were enhanced last year with the addition of nameplates, 'Mushimjeong' and 'Songsangak,' respectively, created and donated by local artists, further emphasizing the identity of the Korean garden. This year, a green parking lot was added and the 'Yoga Under the Stars at Songsansaji' program was launched, expanding the park's use as a daily ecological space.

Everyday Shared Spaces and Care... Songsan 3-dong's Transformation into Open Public Facilities

The Songsan 3-dong Administrative Welfare Center has repurposed the vacant space on the first floor of its public complex building into a shared community area and a senior job caf?, increasing the practical use of administrative facilities for daily life.

This area has been developed as a community hub where residents can freely gather and interact, and where seniors can participate in society through the job caf?. A pilot operation began in December 2025, and the city is reviewing improvements for greater convenience based on resident feedback collected during the trial period. A more stable management system is planned for full operation starting in 2026.

Childcare infrastructure is also being strengthened. Since March 2025, Minrak-dong has operated the 'Anytime Daycare Center' for children over six months old who are not yet in school, providing a care system that allows parents to leave their children safely even during nights, weekends, and emergencies.

Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (except for certain holidays: January 1, Lunar New Year's Day, Chuseok, Buddha's Birthday, and Christmas), this service has become a vital support network, especially for dual-income families, by reducing the burden of childcare.

A new complex facility combining sports and childcare also opened. The 'Minrak National Sports Center' and 'Uijeongbu City Childcare Support Center,' which opened in December 2024 at 273 Minrak-ro, feature a basement and four above-ground floors, housing a swimming pool, multipurpose gym, toy library, and hourly childcare rooms.

This integrated model, offering both sports and childcare in one place, serves as a key urban hub for residents of all ages, from children to adults.

A Living Sphere that Expands Through Stay and Enjoyment... Infrastructure for Residency, Vitality, and the Future in Songsan 3-dong

In Songsan 3-dong, infrastructure that encourages residents to stay, interact, and energize the community is steadily being expanded. Changes are taking place from vacant administrative spaces to riversides, commercial districts, and transportation infrastructure, broadening the scope of daily life in the area.

In front of the Songsan 3-dong Administrative Welfare Center, the 'Minrak Dumulmeori Rest Area,' initiated by resident proposals, opened to the public in May 2025. This 200-square-meter space, consisting of a wooden deck and lawn, features round tables, chairs, improved walkways, and relocated lighting for better accessibility and convenience. Since its creation, it has served as a resting spot for walkers and a place for neighborly interaction, as well as a venue for small-scale busking and cultural activities, making it an open community rest area in everyday life.

The 'Minrak Beer Festival,' centered around the local commercial district, is also energizing the Songsan 3-dong living sphere. Held annually since 2022, the festival celebrated its fourth edition in 2025, growing into a signature local event featuring music performances, hands-on programs, and a flea market. During the festival, visitors from neighboring areas gather, highlighting the potential for a stay-type commercial district in the city.

A leisure space for pets and their owners has also been established. In 2025, the first permanent dog park in the district, 'Songsan Dog Playground,' was created within the Minrak 1 Reservoir. Covering about 752 square meters, it features separate areas for small and large dogs, double entry gates, and safety fences. This space is used not only for dog exercise and socialization but also as a place for natural interaction among pet owners.

In addition, the 'Minrak Tollgate Bypass Road Construction Project' is underway to resolve chronic traffic inconveniences in the Minrak 2 and Gosan districts. A 320-meter road is being constructed from 910 Minrak-dong to the Gosan district, aiming to improve connectivity that was previously cut off by Buyongsan.

An Uijeongbu City official stated, "The Our Neighborhood Policy Roadmap is a communication tool that systematically organizes local changes residents can feel," adding, "We will steadily implement policies so that Songsan 3-dong can become a livable neighborhood where nature, welfare, and a vibrant commercial district come together."

Meanwhile, the 'Our Neighborhood Policy Roadmap' is an initiative to systematically organize policies and issues for each of the city's 15 districts, share changes in daily life with residents, and strengthen communication with the community. The next edition will present the policy roadmap for Jagam-dong.
