Yangcheon District's Main Budget Surpasses 1 Trillion Won for the First Time Ever

Up 1.6% from Last Year
605.1 Billion Won Allocated to Welfare

Yangcheon District in Seoul (Mayor Lee Gijae) announced on December 23 that it has finalized its 2026 budget at a total of 1.0103 trillion won. For the first time in history, the main budget has surpassed 1 trillion won. This represents an increase of 16 billion won (1.6%) compared to the previous year. The general account has increased by 2.8% to 991.9 billion won, while the special account has decreased by 37.4% to 18.4 billion won.

A total of 605.1 billion won, accounting for about 60% of the entire budget, has been allocated to social welfare. The budget for responding to low birth rates and an aging population, as well as for supporting vulnerable groups, has been significantly expanded.


To address gaps in childcare, 3.6 billion won will be invested in the creation of Seoul-style kids cafes and the operation of overnight emergency care centers. To strengthen welfare for the elderly, 1.4 billion won has been allocated for the construction of the Cheongmok Senior Welfare Center, integrated care support operations, and expanded benefits for care workers. Newly allocated funds of 504 million won will improve compensation for activity support workers for people with disabilities, and support for liability insurance for people with disabilities will also be expanded.


In the education sector, 1.28 billion won will be used for the operation of the Y Education Expo, and 1.06 billion won for the operation of regional future education centers, thereby strengthening the educational infrastructure for nurturing future talent. An additional 500 million won will be contributed next year, bringing the total scholarship fund to 4 billion won, and the foundation for supporting youth will also be expanded.


Investments to support young people and revitalize the local economy will continue. The budget includes 550 million won to cover national qualification exam fees, and 570 million won for alley commercial district support projects such as traditional market events.


To enhance safety facilities such as roads, sewage, and security, 1.5 billion won has been allocated, and 520 million won has been earmarked for projects such as research on stabilizing relocation for the Mokdong Apartment reconstruction and the integrated development project around Mokdong Stadium.


Mayor Lee Gijae stated, "The 2026 budget is focused on reducing inconveniences in residents' daily lives and firmly establishing the foundation for future growth," adding, "We will strategically manage our finances to create changes that residents can truly feel in all areas, including welfare, education, safety, and development."
