Visit to Giheung and Hwaseong Semiconductor Campuses
Discussion on Future Strategies with Executives Including Jun Young-hyun, Head of DS Division
Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, visited the key semiconductor sites at the Giheung and Hwaseong campuses and stated, "We must restore our fundamental technological competitiveness through bold innovation and investment."
According to Samsung Electronics on December 22, Chairman Lee inspected the DS Division's next-generation research and development (R&D) complex, 'NRD-K,' located at the Giheung campus in Gyeonggi Province earlier that morning. NRD-K is an integrated R&D complex established by Samsung Electronics to secure leadership in future semiconductor technologies. At this site, Chairman Lee reviewed the progress of next-generation technology development in memory, foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing), and system semiconductors.
In the afternoon, Chairman Lee visited the Hwaseong campus to check on the implementation of manufacturing automation systems using digital twin and robotics, as well as the current utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
At the Hwaseong campus, key semiconductor business executives such as Jeon Young-hyun, Head of the DS Division (Vice Chairman), and Song Jae-hyuk, Chief Technology Officer (CTO, President) of the DS Division, discussed global advanced semiconductor industry trends and future strategies. Chairman Lee also held a meeting with research and manufacturing personnel who contributed to the development of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and next-generation process products.
This visit by Chairman Lee is seen as an effort to boost the morale of semiconductor business employees, whose performance has significantly improved in the second half of this year.
