Expanding Onnuri Gift Certificate Use and Business Support
Ulju County in Ulsan has designated the 'Guyoung-ro Shopping District,' located in the Guyoung-ri area of Beomseo-eup, as Ulju County's first alley-type shopping district.
On December 22, Ulju County announced that Guyoung-ro Shopping District has been officially designated as an alley-type shopping district.
Guyoung-ro Shopping District is situated in Guyoung-ri, Beomseo-eup, which has the largest population in Ulju County. With nearby financial institutions, hospitals, and bus stops, the area enjoys a high volume of foot traffic. Backed by a large apartment complex in the vicinity, 97 stores closely tied to residents' daily lives are in operation.
In particular, the district has become a community-oriented commercial area, with a concentration of snack bars, restaurants, beauty and personal care businesses, and educational institutes, allowing residents to access food, daily services, and education all in one place.
The designation of Ulju County's first alley-type shopping district was made in accordance with the 'Ulju County Alley-type Shopping District Support Ordinance' established in September. The process involved applications from merchants and on-site inspections. According to the Special Act on the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts and related ordinances, an alley-type shopping district must be an area of up to 2,000 square meters with at least 20 small business stores clustered together, and the merchant organization must have the consent of more than half of the store owners to apply.
With this designation, stores within Guyoung-ro Shopping District can now register as Onnuri gift certificate affiliates and will receive various benefits equivalent to those of traditional markets, including improvements to business environments and facility support through various public projects.
An Ulju County official stated, "Guyoung-ro Shopping District is the most vibrant commercial area in the center of Ulju County's population," adding, "We hope this alley-type shopping district designation will provide real support to small business owners. We will actively discover alley commercial districts with high growth potential and foster them as hubs for revitalizing the local economy."
