Consecutive Orders Secured in the UK, Sweden, and Spain
Passed 600 MVA Short-Circuit Test, Meeting European Standards
Cho Hyunjoon: "Defects Are Never Tolerated... Technological Excellence Is Essential"
Hyosung Heavy Industries has continued to secure orders for ultra-high-voltage power equipment in the European power infrastructure market. In December 2025 alone, the company won orders worth approximately 230 billion KRW in the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Spain, focusing on core power grid equipment such as ultra-high-voltage transformers and reactors.
On December 22, Hyosung Heavy Industries announced that it recently signed a contract worth about 120 billion KRW with Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN), the power grid operator in Scotland, United Kingdom, to supply ultra-high-voltage transformers. These facilities will be used in projects connecting renewable energy sources, such as offshore wind power, to onshore transmission networks. Since entering the UK market in 2010, Hyosung Heavy Industries has supplied and maintained ultra-high-voltage transformers, and recently has been expanding its supply to include large-capacity products.

The company also secured a contract worth about 50 billion KRW to supply ultra-high-voltage transformers to a major Swedish distribution company. Hyosung Heavy Industries noted that it has maintained a continuous order relationship with this client since last year. Previously, the company also won orders for ultra-high-voltage transformers in Norway, further expanding its participation in Nordic power grid projects.
In Southern Europe, Hyosung Heavy Industries signed a contract worth about 60 billion KRW with Spanish power and energy companies to supply transformers and reactors. This marks the company's first entry into the Spanish market with ultra-high-voltage power equipment.
Europe is a challenging market to enter, as it is dominated by leading global competitors. This year, Hyosung Heavy Industries passed the short-circuit test for ultra-high-voltage transformers conducted by RTE, the French transmission system operator, thereby enhancing its technological credibility. The short-circuit test is one of the most demanding certification procedures for entering the European power market, simulating power accident scenarios by instantly applying extreme current. Hyosung Heavy Industries successfully passed the test for a 600 MVA ultra-high-voltage transformer, the largest capacity in France.
The company attributed its success in the European market to Chairman Cho Hyunjoon's "technology-driven management." Chairman Cho has consistently emphasized that "products with outdated technology or defects cannot be tolerated," and that "since power equipment has a long lifespan, it must be backed by technology that ensures unwavering trust from customers."
