According to the National Museum of Korea, its English-language academic journal, the Journal of Korean Art and Archaeology (JKAA), has been included in the journal database Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Open access allows anyone to read, download, and share journal articles free of charge. The database includes 22,309 journals from 140 countries, of which 181 are published in Korea.
JKAA is the first academic journal published by a Korean museum to be listed. Currently, 27 academic journals from museums in 16 countries around the world are included. To be listed, a journal must pass international open access standards by undergoing a three-stage review based on approximately 60 evaluation criteria.
JKAA has been published annually since 2007. Each year, it selects special topics of timeliness and academic significance in museum research fields such as archaeology, art history, and conservation science, and introduces them to the international academic community.
