Zhang Xuechang moved to Shanghai in 2020 to work as a delivery worker for a major platform company. He had previously run a restaurant with a friend in his hometown of Zhangzhou, Fujian Province in southeastern China, but after closing the business, he was left with a debt of 50,000 yuan (about 10.5 million KRW).

"Only buying essentials and saving"... Saved 200 million KRW in five years

Over the past five years, Zhang Xuechang earned a total of 1.4 million yuan from his delivery work. After repaying his debt and covering living expenses, he managed to save 1.12 million yuan. He explained, "I don't spend on anything except basic necessities," adding, "I worked about 13 hours a day, seven days a week, and aside from eating and sleeping, I spent all my time delivering food."

The secret to his success was 'diligence.' Zhang Xuechang's working hours were from 10:40 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. the next day. However, he made sure to get eight and a half hours of sleep each day to maintain his physical strength. He said, "I handle more than 300 orders a month, and each order takes an average of 25 minutes," adding, "The total distance I have delivered so far is 324,000 kilometers."

Plans to open a restaurant with a 100 million KRW investment

Thanks to his diligence, he earned the nickname "Order King" among his colleagues. Yan, the manager of the delivery center in Minhang District, Shanghai, where Zhang Xuechang works, said, "He is not talkative and is solely focused on food delivery. I have never seen him walk-he is always running." Manager Yan added, "In our industry, the harder you work, the more money you can make. Zhang Xuechang is a rare example of someone who works extremely hard and is also very frugal."

Zhang Xuechang announced that he plans to invest 800,000 yuan (about 167 million KRW) to open two breakfast restaurants in Shanghai in the first half of next year. Local netizens responded with comments such as "What an impressive young man," "He is truly diligent," "There is much to learn from someone so young," and "He will be a great role model for young people."
