Gwangju City and Gwangju Rotary Club Sign MOU to Support Influenza Vaccinations for Foreign Residents

On December 19, Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province and the Gwangju Rotary Club of Rotary International District 3600 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote the "Influenza Vaccination Support Project for Foreign Residents," aimed at protecting the health of foreign residents and preventing influenza.

This agreement was established to enhance medical accessibility for foreign residents who are vulnerable to influenza vaccination due to economic difficulties, and to strengthen the overall infectious disease prevention and health safety net within the local community.

This project is an internationally supported initiative approved by Rotary International headquarters, with a total budget of 30,000 dollars. Through this project, approximately 1,100 foreign residents in the region are expected to receive free influenza vaccinations.

Under the agreement, the city will support outreach and publicity for foreign residents and foreign workers employed at local companies, primarily through the Gwangju City Family Center and organizations supporting foreign residents. The Gwangju Rotary Club plans to implement the vaccination project in cooperation with The Plus Hospital and 365 Maeil Korean Medicine Hospital.

Kim Younggeun, President of the Gwangju Rotary Club, stated, "It is very meaningful to be able to contribute to the health and safety of foreign residents through the Rotary Club's community service activities," adding, "We will continue to work with the local community through ongoing social contribution activities."

Mayor Bang Sehwan expressed, "I deeply appreciate the Gwangju Rotary Club of Rotary International District 3600 for their warm generosity in realizing a healthy community," and added, "I hope this agreement will serve as an opportunity to further expand the health safety net for the local community, including foreign residents."

Meanwhile, the Influenza Vaccination Support Project for Foreign Residents, which is being promoted based on this MOU, is scheduled to continue through early next year. Details regarding eligible recipients and the vaccination schedule will be announced later by Gwangju City, the Gwangju City Family Center, and organizations supporting foreign residents.
