Cheorwon County Finalizes 620.5 Billion Won Main Budget for 2026... "All-In on Revitalizing the Local Economy"

Cheorwon County in Gangwon Province, faced with declining non-tax revenues and uncertainties in tax revenue conditions, has established a robust budget based on proactive fiscal management aimed at revitalizing the local economy and strategic, performance-based financial administration. The county submitted its largest-ever budget proposal to the Cheorwon County Council, which was approved on Friday, December 19, 2025.

With this approval, the total amount of the main budget for 2026 has been set at 620.5 billion won, an increase of 53.4 billion won from the previous year’s main budget of 567 billion won. The general account has increased by 49.1 billion won to 600.8 billion won, while the special account has increased by 4.2 billion won to 19.7 billion won.


Next year’s budget includes 6 billion won for the Hantangang (Songdaeso) UNESCO Global Geopark base space development project, 3.4 billion won for the Cheorwon Historic Village Project, 2.1 billion won for child-rearing allowances, 3.4 billion won for river and small stream maintenance and local residents’ long-standing demands, 2.7 billion won for sports marketing to host and operate sports events, 5 billion won for the construction of the Cheorwon Indoor Gymnasium, 4 billion won for Cheorwon County scholarship programs, 6 billion won for maintenance of small-scale irrigation and drainage channels and agricultural infrastructure such as farm road repairs, 1.5 billion won for support for purchasing rice farming machinery, 5.4 billion won for the border area living infrastructure (LPG) project, 4.3 billion won for the construction of a support center for food-related projects, and 20.9 billion won for the expansion of public sewage treatment facilities in Kimhwa, Dongsong, and Galmal, among other balanced allocations across various sectors.


Lee Hyunjong, Mayor of Cheorwon County, stated, “Despite the challenging internal and external environment, including low growth and high inflation, the largest-ever 2026 budget of 620.5 billion won was finalized thanks to the active cooperation of the Cheorwon County Council and the unwavering trust and support of Cheorwon residents.” He added, “In 2026, we will do our utmost in fiscal management to ensure that Cheorwon continues to be a place of hope where all residents can smile more and enjoy greater happiness.”
