Police Request Voluntary Submission of Materials at Cheonjeonggung, Headquarters of the Unification Church

The police are attempting to obtain materials from Cheonjeonggung, the headquarters of the Unification Church, through voluntary submission in connection with allegations that political figures received money and valuables from the church.

The Special Investigation Task Force of the National Police Agency dispatched investigators to Cheonjeonggung of the Unification Church in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, at around 9 a.m. on the 18th. This comes just three days after the police conducted search and seizure operations at 10 locations, including the Seoul headquarters of the Unification Church, the affiliated Universal Peace Federation, and Seoul Detention Center, where figures such as President Hak Ja Han and former World Headquarters Director Yoon Youngho are being held.



The police are investigating circumstances in which the Unification Church allegedly provided cash totaling tens of millions of won and other valuables to former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Jeon Jae Soo, former Democratic Party lawmaker Lim Jong Seong, and former United Future Party lawmaker Kim Kyuhwan between 2018 and 2020.
