72 Public Rental Units Planned for Yegwan-dong
Completion Targeted for 2028
Jung-gu District in Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gilseong) will construct a public rental industrial facility to support small printing businesses facing the risk of losing their workplaces due to the redevelopment of the Sewoon Redevelopment Promotion District.
On December 17, the district announced that it had convened an architectural committee and approved the architectural design plan for the public rental industrial facility supporting the printing industry. The district plans to expedite the permitting process, aiming to break ground in the second half of next year and complete construction by 2028.
The facility will be located at 143 Yegwan-dong, near the district office, with a total floor area of 7,127.14 square meters, spanning two basement levels and ten above-ground floors. From the third to the tenth floor, 72 public rental commercial units, each approximately 33 square meters, will be provided.
The construction of the facility will proceed without the use of district financial resources. The district will utilize land donated through the Sewoon 6-3-4 Area Redevelopment Project in May 2023. After constructing the facility as part of the Sewoon 6-3-3 Area Redevelopment Project, the completed building will be donated to the district.
The district actively incorporated feedback from the printing industry from the design stage. In communication with the Korea Printing Cooperative Federation (Chairman Park Jangseon), the district designed customized spaces centered on the needs of actual users. The interiors of the commercial units can be expanded using partition walls as needed, and the facility will be organized around processes suitable for printing clusters, including planning, design, and digital printing.
The facility will primarily accommodate small printing businesses within the Sewoon Redevelopment Promotion District. In addition, new industry startups and community convenience facilities will be included to maximize space utilization. Reflecting the voices of the printing industry, the district is also considering expanding the facility to 18 floors in the future to accommodate more small printing businesses.
Kim Gilseong, Mayor of Jung-gu District, stated, "We will support the printing industry, which is undergoing significant changes due to the Sewoon redevelopment project, so that it can continue operations without disruption, and we will create a mutually beneficial, innovative city where tradition and new industries coexist."
Meanwhile, the Sewoon 6-3-3 Area will also feature a business facility and neighborhood living facility, spanning eight basement levels and 32 above-ground floors, with a total floor area of approximately 87,600 square meters.
