Police to Conduct Daily Drunk Driving Crackdowns on Gangnam Roads Through Year-End: "December Sees Most Accidents" Yonhap News Agency

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on December 18 that all 31 police stations in the city will conduct intensive drunk driving crackdowns through the end of the year.

The police plan to carry out daily drunk driving checks on major roads in Gangnam, both day and night, aiming not only to enforce the law but also to raise public awareness and promote prevention.

An analysis of the average monthly drunk driving traffic accidents over the past three years, from 2022 to last year, showed that December had the highest number of incidents, with 196.3 cases on average. The average number of injuries in December was also higher than in other months, at 335.

By police station jurisdiction, the Gangnam Police Station recorded the highest number of drunk driving accidents last year, with 320 cases.

A police official stated, "The main purpose of conducting large-scale crackdowns in Gangnam, where the most drunk driving accidents have occurred over the past three years, is not only to apprehend offenders but also to demonstrate the police's strong commitment to eradicating drunk driving, thereby preventing such incidents and fostering a safer traffic culture among citizens."
