On the 18th, Samsung C&T announced that it had signed a contract for the Marinus Link HVDC project, which was commissioned by Marinus Link Pty Ltd, a company established by the Australian federal government and the state governments of Victoria and Tasmania.

This project involves the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of an ultra-high voltage direct current transmission facility with a capacity of 750 MW, spanning 90 km underground and 255 km undersea, connecting the Hazelwood area in Victoria and the Heybridge area in Tasmania.

Samsung C&T formed a joint venture with DTI (DT INFRASTRUCTURE), a local infrastructure specialist construction company, to win the civil works for underground cable installation and the converter station construction package. Out of the total construction cost of 940 billion won, Samsung C&T's share is 50%, amounting to approximately 470 billion won.

The Marinus Link HVDC project will enable stable, bidirectional power transmission between Tasmania, which has abundant renewable energy, and mainland regions including Victoria, while minimizing energy loss.

From the early stages of the project, Samsung C&T participated in the ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) process, where the contractor is involved in the design phase, and received high marks from the client by presenting optimized design solutions and demonstrating its capabilities built through the UAE HVDC project.

Meanwhile, in July, Samsung C&T won a 200 billion won contract for the Gnarwarre energy storage system (BESS) project in Victoria, Australia, and has achieved a total of 1 trillion won in orders from the Australian energy market this year alone. Since entering the Australian energy market in 2023 with the Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub (MREH) project, Samsung C&T has been carrying out energy storage system projects with a total capacity of 2.9 GWh.

Kim Sungjun, Executive Vice President and Head of ES Business Division at Samsung C&T, stated, "The Marinus Link HVDC project is a testament to Samsung C&T's technological prowess and project execution capabilities in the Australian market. We will continue to expand our business scope in the global energy market, including Australia."
