On December 17, Kim Jintae, Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, visited the construction site of the Seoraksan Osaek Cable Car in Yangyang County to check the progress of the year-end work and review the winter safety management system.
Governor Kim received a briefing at the on-site office on the overall progress and the status of the lower station construction, after which he visited the lower station site to inspect the work progress and safety management system.
Governor Kim emphasized, "The Osaek Cable Car project has been underway for over 40 years and should not be delayed any further. Please ensure that this year's planned work is completed without any setbacks, and make thorough preparations so that next year's construction can resume immediately after the winter season."
He added, "Please meticulously manage the risk factors for each stage of the project and ensure that safety measures are properly implemented at every step on site."
Ecological monitoring was also conducted to dispel concerns about environmental damage.
Governor Kim personally participated in the installation of unmanned sensor cameras and pledged to pursue an "eco-friendly construction" based on scientific research. Currently, 31 unmanned sensor cameras and drones are being used at the site to systematically collect data and observe the behavioral characteristics and habitat changes of the long-tailed goral over the long term.
During the ecological monitoring research conducted on the same day, plans were introduced to systematically accumulate ecological data and monitor the behavioral characteristics and habitat changes of the long-tailed goral over the long term using 31 unmanned sensor cameras and drone surveys.
