"30 Years of Warmth" SK Delivers Kimchi to Vulnerable Groups

SK Delivers 1.4 Million Heads of Kimchi to Neighbors in Need
"We Will Support Synergy with Social Enterprises"

SK Group has continued its kimchi sharing initiative for socially vulnerable groups for 30 years. In total, approximately 1.4 million heads of kimchi, weighing about 3,477 tons, have been delivered to neighbors in need.

On December 17, SK Group announced that it held the 'SK Happiness Sharing Kimchi Making' delivery ceremony at Happy Narae, a social enterprise established by SK. SK purchased 24,000 heads of kimchi produced by three social enterprises, and plans to distribute them through the Food Sharing Movement Association (Meokgeo-hyeop) to 539 social welfare institutions and 2,051 households in need nationwide.

The Food Sharing Movement Association is a food-sharing organization jointly established by the Social Welfare Foundation of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, the Busruregi Love Sharing Association, and the General Assembly Headquarters of the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea. Attendees at the ceremony included Kwontae Kim, CEO of Okgwa Delicious Kimchi; Jongseon Yoon, Co-Representative of the Food Sharing Movement Association (and CEO of Busruregi Love Sharing Association); Hunsam Lee, Co-Representative of the Food Sharing Movement Association (and Secretary-General of the General Assembly Headquarters of the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea); Monk Dongpyo, Head of the Social Welfare Foundation of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism; Dongseop Ji, Chairman of the Social Value Committee of SK Supex Council; and Jaehan Park, CEO of Happy Narae. Social enterprises such as Juwangsan Kimchi, Okgwa Delicious Kimchi, and Damchaewon, which made the kimchi to be delivered to marginalized groups, also pledged to donate a portion of their proceeds at the event, further spreading warmth and goodwill.

'SK Happiness Sharing Kimchi Making' is SK's representative social contribution activity. Since 1996, members of the group have gathered to make kimchi themselves and deliver it to vulnerable groups. Since 2015, instead of holding large-scale events with group members, SK has switched to purchasing kimchi produced by social enterprises and delivering it to neighbors in need. This approach not only provides social enterprises with opportunities to increase their brand recognition and sales, but also revitalizes local economies by using domestic ingredients and hiring local residents. Since 2022, SK Stoa has also supported the promotion and sale of kimchi from participating social enterprises through special home shopping broadcasts. Dongseop Ji, Chairman of the Social Value Committee of SK Supex Council, stated, "The Happiness Sharing Kimchi Making, which has continued for 30 years, is SK's representative social contribution activity. We will actively support synergy with social enterprises and ensure that helping hands continue to reach marginalized neighbors."
