Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) held an executive meeting at the Baekseok Annex on the 17th, where the city conducted an intensive review of the progress of key initiatives under the eighth popularly elected administration.

Presiding over the meeting, Mayor Lee Donghwan shared updates on the recent visible expansion of the city’s rail transportation network and the outcomes of administrative litigation victories. He strongly urged that all administrative efforts should be focused on delivering tangible results that citizens can truly feel.
Mayor Lee first expressed optimism about resolving Goyang’s longstanding transportation issues. This comes as the city’s railway projects have gained momentum, with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport granting final approval for the “2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Rail Network Construction Plan” on December 12, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the “Daejang-Hongdae Line” taking place on December 15.
He stated, “With the groundbreaking of the Daejang-Hongdae Line, accessibility to Seoul’s western region for residents in areas such as Deogeun District will be greatly improved. Since the Siksa-Gajwa urban railway project is also a long-held wish of our citizens, I ask that you actively coordinate with Gyeonggi Province and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to ensure the plan proceeds smoothly and delivers real results.”
In particular, the meeting addressed the city’s recent Supreme Court victory in an administrative lawsuit regarding the ex officio cancellation of a change of use for the Shincheonji Pungdong religious facility.
Mayor Lee emphasized, “This ruling confirms that our city’s administrative decision to protect citizens’ daily lives and safety was justified. Moving forward, we will continue to comprehensively review legal compliance and the potential for public interest harm, and maintain a citizen-first approach in our administration.”

Meanwhile, at the executive meeting, the city’s administrative capabilities were recognized across various fields, including receiving the Prime Minister’s Commendation as an outstanding local government for youth policy, being selected as an ‘excellent institution’ for food poisoning prevention and management, and winning the grand prize for outstanding private employment service at the Goyang Women’s Resources Development Center. Mayor Lee expressed his gratitude and encouraged the staff members who contributed to these achievements.
Concluding the meeting, Mayor Lee called for thorough review and improvement of the progress of each department’s key initiatives, emphasizing, “All of the city’s efforts must lead to substantial outcomes that citizens can directly experience in their daily lives.”
