An Increase of Over 8,000 Compared to Last Year
Three-Month Closure Begins in January
Course to Reopen in Optimal Condition on April 1
Mureung Park Golf Course in Donghae City, Gangwon Province, is rapidly emerging as a hub for local sports and recreation, recording a surge in the number of visitors.
According to the Donghae City Facilities Management Corporation on December 17, the total number of visitors to Mureung Park Golf Course reached 25,332 as of the end of November. This represents an increase of 8,106 people (47.0%) compared to 17,226 recorded during the same period last year.
This sharp growth is attributed to the rising demand for recreational sports among citizens who are increasingly interested in health, as well as the growing popularity of park golf. Since its opening at the end of 2023, the course has quickly established itself as a leisure space in the daily lives of local residents.
Meanwhile, the Donghae City Facilities Management Corporation plans to close the park golf course and implement a turf rest period from January to March 2026 to improve the grass growth environment and maintain the quality of the facilities. The turf rest period is a measure to prevent turf damage caused by winter use and to provide optimal playing conditions when the course reopens in the spring.
This turf rest period is a proactive measure to prevent turf damage that may occur due to heavy winter use and to ensure optimal playing conditions for visitors when the course reopens next spring. During the closure, the corporation will focus on intensive turf management and conduct comprehensive inspections and maintenance of the facilities to enhance visitor satisfaction.
Chairman Lee Yongbin stated, "Since its opening at the end of 2023, Mureung Park Golf Course has shown visible operational results through this year's increase in visitors," adding, "It is important not only to expand usage in the short term but also to ensure the long-term quality and safety of the facilities." He further remarked, "Through the turf rest period, we will create a more pleasant and safe park golf course and present it again to citizens next spring."
During the closure, the corporation will carry out turf management alongside facility inspections and maintenance to enhance visitor satisfaction and ensure the sustainable operation of the sports facility.
