Trump to Deliver National Address on the 17th Night... Expected to Highlight Economic Achievements

Recent Decline in Approval Ratings
Aiming to Rally Public Support Ahead of Next Year's Midterm Elections

Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced that he will deliver a nationally televised address at the White House on the 17th (local time). As this speech comes about a month before the first anniversary of his inauguration and amid a recent decline in approval ratings, it is expected that he will focus on highlighting the achievements of his economic policies.

On the 16th, President Trump posted on his own social networking service, Truth Social, saying, "My fellow Americans, tomorrow night at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, I will deliver a live address from the White House," adding, "I hope to see you then." He continued, "It has been a great year for our country," and "The best is yet to come."

Regarding the main content of the speech, White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt explained in an interview with Fox News on the same day, "He will provide a detailed account of the historic achievements he has made for our country over the past year and will preview several policies to be announced in the coming new year."

This national address will take place ahead of the first anniversary of his inauguration at the end of January next year. Since the launch of his second term, President Trump has pursued tough trade policies such as tariff increases externally, and has pressured allies to increase their defense spending. He has also continued diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Domestically, he has implemented major policies such as strengthening anti-immigration measures, restructuring the federal workforce, and pushing for large-scale tax cuts.

However, as the speech is being held amid rising job insecurity and high inflation, which have led to worsening economic sentiment among ordinary citizens and declining approval ratings, observers believe the focus will be on underscoring the achievements of his economic policies. Analysts say that by highlighting his accomplishments, such as attracting investment to the United States, he intends to lay the groundwork for victory in the midterm elections scheduled for November next year.

According to a recent poll conducted by the Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, President Trump's approval rating for his economic policies has dropped significantly to 31%, down from 40% in March.
