Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province has been consecutively selected for the '6th and 7th rounds of the 2025 Industrial Complex Environmental Improvement Project' hosted by the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, securing a total project budget of 72 billion won, including 20 billion won in national funding.
In the 6th round, two projects were selected: the construction of a multipurpose gymnasium (swimming pool) and the Youth Culture Center (performance hall), securing 13 billion won in national funding. In the 7th round, the multipurpose gymnasium construction project was also selected, bringing in an additional 7 billion won in national funding.
With these selections, the development of leisure, cultural, and sports infrastructure in the National Industrial Complexes No. 4 and 5 and their expansion areas is expected to accelerate in earnest.

The multipurpose gymnasium (6th round, swimming pool), to be built in the Sandong Expansion District of Gumi, will be a large-scale facility with a total project cost of 53.43 billion won, spanning from one basement floor to three above-ground floors.
The facility will offer a variety of programs for citizens and workers, such as swimming and aqua aerobics. It will incorporate eco-friendly design and a smart management system to establish a sustainable sports infrastructure. This is expected to meet the needs of industrial complex workers and local residents, while also greatly contributing to the revitalization of local sports.
The Youth Culture Center (performance hall), with a total project cost of 8.57 billion won, will be built in conjunction with the swimming pool building.
As a complex cultural space featuring a 400-seat performance hall, vocal, band, and dance practice rooms, and seminar rooms, it will expand the cultural enjoyment base for young people and workers, and contribute to the creation of a youth cultural ecosystem.
Additionally, it will serve as a hub for local artistic creation activities, establishing itself as a key infrastructure for revitalizing culture within the industrial complex.
The multipurpose gymnasium construction project selected in the 7th round will be an indoor sports facility with a total project cost of 10 billion won. It will further enhance its multifunctionality by adding popular exercise spaces such as a gym and pilates studio to the Youth Culture Center building.
Notably, as it will include both the swimming pool (ranked first) and gym facilities (ranked second), which were the most preferred sports facilities in the preliminary demand survey, it is planned as a demand-tailored complex building.
Previously, in the 4th (July) and 5th (September) rounds of the industrial complex environmental improvement project, three projects were selected: expansion of parking convenience facilities near the Gongdan-dong Lifelong Learning Center, renewal of the riverside baseball field, and construction of the Sangmo Sagok Imo multipurpose gymnasium. Gumi City is making every effort to improve the residential environment of the national industrial complex.
In addition, with the designation as a 'Culture Leading Industrial Complex' (March), Gumi City has established core cultural hubs in National Industrial Complex No. 1 and is promoting the construction of worker-only officetels (Gumi Youth Dream Tower) and a branded hotel (Four Points by Sheraton). As a result, in 2025, Gumi City is expected to achieve the highest level of performance nationwide in the field of industrial complex environmental improvement.
Building on this achievement, Gumi City plans to accelerate its transformation into an industrial city where young people and workers want to stay, going beyond environmental improvements in industrial complexes. Starting with the expansion of cultural and sports infrastructure, the city aims to innovate the residential environment and focus administrative capabilities on building a youth-friendly industrial city.
Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho stated, "This selection has provided the administrative foundation to promote the related projects," adding, "The city will faithfully carry out the necessary administrative procedures."
