The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Global Headquarters (headed by Son Changhwan) will allocate a total budget of 82.4 billion won for the Tourism Bureau in the coming year.

The direction for the 2026 provincial tourism budget has been set to focus on linked projects aimed at attracting 200 million visitors, as well as building tourism infrastructure to increase visitor stay time, as the final year of the “2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Year” approaches.


Major projects in tourism marketing include: 500 million won for promotion and marketing of the “2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Year”; 600 million won for Gangwon tourism promotion linked to media platforms; 350 million won for fostering glocal tourism products; and 680 million won to support the activation of local airports. In tourism infrastructure, 19.4 billion won will be invested in tourism resource development projects; 11.3 billion won in revitalizing the tourism industry in abandoned mining areas; and 4 billion won in the Seoraksan Osaek Cable Car installation project.


Key new projects include: 900 million won for the tentatively named “Gangwon Travel Full of Benefits”; 1.1 billion won for the 2026 accommodation discount voucher support project; 50 million won for the certification system welcoming solo travelers; and 130 million won for campaigns promoting kindness, cleanliness, and eradicating price gouging.


Son Changhwan, Head of the Global Headquarters, stated, “We will make next year the grand finale of the ‘2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Year,’ ensuring that all ongoing projects are completed without wavering. We aim to create a ‘tourism capital Gangwon’ that every visitor will remember and want to return to.”
