Police Conduct Search and Seizure of Korea Communications Media Standards Commission over Ryu Heerim 'Civil Complaint Orchestration' Allegations Yonhap News Agency

The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it was conducting a search and seizure of the Korea Communications Media Standards Commission office in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, starting around 9 a.m. on December 16.

The police are reported to have secured materials from the chairman’s office, the anteroom, and the civil complaint team’s server, which were used by former Chairman Ryu during his tenure.

Former Chairman Ryu is suspected of having his family and acquaintances file civil complaints in September 2023, requesting a review of reports citing the “Kim Manbae-Shin Hakrim interview,” and of participating in the review process himself.

Previously, the Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul cleared the case of any charges in July. However, following a request from the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office, the police reopened the investigation, and the Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is currently handling the case.
