Samsung Electronics announced on December 16 that it has expanded its partnerships with global energy companies to provide customers using its home appliances with enhanced electricity bill savings benefits.

First, the company has signed a partnership with Enel, the largest electricity and energy company in Italy. As a result, starting December 16 (local time), customers who purchase Samsung washing machines will receive up to 180 kWh of free electricity for laundry use over two years.

180 kWh is the amount of electricity needed to run a Samsung Electronics A-grade washing machine in Europe for about two years. The Samsung Electronics A-grade washing machine consumes an average of 0.539 kWh per wash, and assuming laundry is done every other day, 180 kWh allows for about 670 days of use. Any customer receiving electricity from Enel can receive the free electricity benefit by purchasing a Samsung Electronics washing machine and connecting it to SmartThings.

Samsung Electronics has also collaborated with British Gas, a UK energy company, to launch the exclusive "Weekend Saver Fixed Rate Plan" for Samsung Electronics product buyers last month.

This plan offers a 50% discount on electricity used in the home between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Through these electricity bill savings, users can reduce their financial burden, while energy companies can encourage electricity use during low-demand daytime hours, increasing surplus power utilization and preventing grid overload-a win-win for both parties. Customers using electricity from British Gas can immediately enroll in the "Samsung Weekend Saver Fixed Rate Plan" upon purchasing a new Samsung Electronics product. Eligible home appliances include washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators and freezers, ovens, microwave ovens, cordless stick vacuum cleaners, and robot vacuum cleaners.

Samsung Electronics has also continued its partnership with Coolblue, a Dutch energy company. In June, it launched the "Free Laundry Program," which allows customers to use Samsung Electronics washing machines without paying electricity fees from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Subsequently, in September, the free electricity benefit was expanded to include dryer use. Households supplied with electricity from Coolblue can automatically receive the benefit by enrolling in the "Free Laundry Program" and connecting their Samsung Electronics appliances to SmartThings.

Since July of last year, Samsung Electronics has been operating the "Flex Connect" program in collaboration with Leap, a US energy company, to optimize the power consumption of appliances connected to SmartThings. This program automatically optimizes the power consumption of connected appliances using SmartThings' "AI Saving Mode" when the power grid is unstable due to high electricity demand. Each time "AI Saving Mode" is activated, customers also receive points that can be used on Samsung.com. After initially covering California and New York, the service expanded to Texas in March. Samsung Electronics plans to continue expanding the program so that more US consumers can benefit.

Users can conveniently enjoy electricity bill discounts through the "Energy" feature of the SmartThings app. SmartThings Energy provides notifications aligned with the electricity bill benefit hours, and users can monitor the usage and electricity costs of their connected home appliances at a glance. For the all-in-one washer-dryer "Bespoke AI Combo," there is also a "custom reservation" feature that automatically schedules washing and drying to coincide with discounted electricity hours.

Park Chanwoo, Vice President of the B2B Solutions Team at Samsung Electronics, stated, "We are continuously expanding energy partnerships to provide a variety of electricity bill benefits to Samsung Electronics home appliance users. We will continue to advance SmartThings and strengthen connectivity with smart appliances to enhance both energy efficiency and user convenience."
