In connection with the incident in August this year in which a worker was swept away by rainwater and died in a manhole in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, two officials from the construction company have been referred to the prosecution.
On December 15, the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul announced that it had referred the site manager and the supervisor in charge from the sewer pipe repair construction company to the prosecution without detention on charges of occupational negligence resulting in death.
The police determined that the site foreman, who had also been booked on the same charge at the time, did not have authority over the relevant work and therefore decided not to refer the case, concluding there was no criminal liability.
The two are accused of neglecting their duty to prevent accidents in connection with the death of a worker in his 40s, who was swept away by rainwater and died during sewer reinforcement work in a manhole in Yeomchang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, at around 9:40 a.m. on August 25.
