Couple Found Stabbed to Death at Home
Directed Numerous Films Including "Misery" and "A Few Good Men"
Rob Reiner, the legendary Hollywood director acclaimed for broadening the horizons of romance films with "When Harry Met Sally," was found dead at home alongside his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner. On December 14 (local time), international media outlets such as People and CNN reported that the Reiner couple was discovered murdered in their residence, and that police are currently searching for the suspect.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded at 3:30 p.m. to Rob Reiner's home in Brentwood, California. At the scene, a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were found dead from stab wounds. Police later officially identified the victims as director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has classified the case as a clear homicide and launched an investigation.
People, citing multiple sources, reported that the suspect who killed the couple is their son, Nick Reiner. In a 2016 interview with People, Nick Reiner revealed that he had suffered from drug addiction since his early teens. As his addiction worsened, he began living on the streets, and from around the age of 15, he moved in and out of rehabilitation facilities, gradually becoming estranged from his family. He spent considerable time homeless, wandering across several states.
The LAPD stated, "Nick Reiner is currently missing," and confirmed, "We are investigating a member of the Reiner family as the prime suspect." The bereaved family released a statement expressing, "We are deeply saddened to share the tragic news of the passing of Rob and Michelle Reiner," and added, "Our hearts are broken by this sudden loss. We ask for privacy during this unimaginably difficult time."

Reiner, who led the golden age of Hollywood cinema in the 1980s and 1990s, gained significant acclaim with "Stand by Me" (1986), which offered a delightful exploration of whether men and women can be friends. He then directed the romantic comedy classic "When Harry Met Sally" (1989). Continuing his success, he adapted Stephen King's novel into the thriller "Misery" (1990), which earned lead actress Kathy Bates an Oscar. In the courtroom drama "A Few Good Men" (1992), starring Tom Cruise, he delivered one of the most iconic lines in film history: "You can't handle the truth!"
