Personal Experiences Reflected in the Webtoon

Jeon Woo-won, grandson of the late former President Chun Doo-hwan, who received a suspended prison sentence for drug use, recently shared an update on his life through social media. Jeon has been serializing a webtoon on his social media, created using artificial intelligence (AI), in which he reveals his family history and personal wounds. On December 4, he posted the first episode of the webtoon on Instagram, accompanied by a brief caption stating, "I feel like I've lost my mind."

In the webtoon, he depicts himself as a lamb character named 'Mongle.' His biological mother, Jeongae Choi, is portrayed as a gentle lamb, while former President Chun Doo-hwan, Mrs. Lee Soon-ja, his father Jaeyong Jeon, and his stepmother Sanga Park are depicted as 'black lambs.' Notably, former President Chun and Mrs. Lee are drawn with red eyes, resembling satanic figures.

The webtoon begins with the birth of Mongle and scenes of his mother's daily tears. It also depicts his father's infidelity and the collapse of the family, as well as the period after his maternal grandfather's death when his mother was consecutively diagnosed with breast cancer, thyroid cancer, and cervical cancer. Frequent changes of guardians and abuse by a driver are also described. In the story, Mongle is judged every Sunday at a 'giant castle,' which appears to symbolize former President Chun's residence. He suggests that he was confined to the bathroom for not eating food or was assaulted after complaining of motion sickness while traveling.

Later, he confesses that witnessing his father's remarriage in the United States made his world collapse, and that during his subsequent studies abroad, he suffered bullying and violence due to language and cultural differences. Jeon also shared suspicions of wrongdoing during his studies abroad and said that after learning about his family's history, he wondered, "Is my grandfather the reason people torment me?" He also claimed that he was driven out by his stepmother. Jeon announced his intention to continue serializing the webtoon, drawing attention to the stories he will reveal in the future. Netizens who saw this responded with comments such as, "This is no laughing matter," "His family environment is too harsh," "You can feel his pain," and "Sending support to Mongle."

Previously, from October 2022 to March of last year, Jeon was accused of habitual use of LSD, marijuana, and ecstasy while residing in the United States. As a result, in April of last year, the Seoul High Court's Criminal Division 1-3 sentenced him to two years and six months in prison, suspended for four years, for violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics (psychotropic substances), upholding the verdict from the first trial.
