"Patient Safety, Not Just a Slogan but Practice"... Daedong Hospital Successfully Concludes 2025 QI Competition

Small improvements that began at patients' bedsides have fostered a culture of safety throughout the hospital.


Daedong Hospital (Director: Lee Gwangjae) successfully held the '2025 QI Competition and Poster Exhibition.'


Organized by the Appropriateness Management Committee and the Appropriateness Management Office, the event focused not only on maintaining and managing healthcare institution accreditation, but also on fostering a patient safety-centered organizational culture.


In particular, the event served as a venue for all staff members to participate and share achievements in improving various work processes within the hospital, as well as enhancing patient safety and the quality of medical services.

During Part 1 of the QI Competition, held on December 10, six teams selected through a prior review delivered presentations: ▲Surgical Ward Nursing Team (activities to reduce unnecessary expenses through efficient wound dressing management); ▲Medical Ward Nursing Team (improvement activities to reduce medication errors); ▲Special Nursing Team - Operating Room (activities to reduce omissions and errors in surgical material prescriptions); ▲Smart Logistics Team (improving efficiency and reducing paper use through digitalization of logistics management); ▲Rehabilitation Therapy Team (creating a safer pediatric rehabilitation center environment and customized fire safety manual through fire prevention activities); ▲Outpatient Nursing Team - Internal Medicine (reducing no-show rates by improving the appointment management system).


In Part 2, the Appropriateness Management Office shared the results of QI activities with participating staff through a case presentation titled, "The Yellow Light Turned Green! Creating a Safer Hospital by Promoting Patient Safety Incident Reporting."


The Appropriateness Management Committee, composed of Lee Gwangjae (Committee Chair, Daedong Hospital Director, and Endocrinology Specialist), Kim Suhyeong (Head of Appropriateness Management Office and Cardiology Specialist), and others, conducted a comprehensive evaluation based on report submissions, interim reports, and competition presentations, and selected the Outpatient Nursing Team - Internal Medicine as the recipient of the Grand Prize.


In addition, during the QI Poster Exhibition held in the hospital's first-floor lobby for five days starting December 8, the hospital actively promoted its patient safety initiatives and quality improvement efforts not only to staff but also to external visitors. Among the 14 participating departments, the Central Supply Room of the Special Nursing Team was selected as the Grand Prize winner through a judging process.


Kim Suhyeong, Head of the Appropriateness Management Office, stated, "The QI Competition holds great significance in identifying outstanding improvement cases and sharing and spreading them among all staff, thereby establishing a sustainable system for improving the quality of medical care. I would like to thank all employees for their active participation, and we will continue to actively support a variety of activities so that staff can further engage in QI initiatives to raise patient safety and the level of medical services even higher."
