Yongsan District in Seoul, led by District Mayor Park Hee-young, has reopened the Hyochang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center after completing more than a year of remodeling work. With a total project cost of over 9.5 billion won, the district replaced the building's exterior and outdated facility equipment, reorganized the layout on each floor, and created an improved environment for residents using the center.

During this renovation, the Hyochang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center completely replaced the external walls and windows, which had previously been vulnerable to fire. Inside, fire safety was enhanced by upgrading fire protection systems, including sprinklers.
The Hyochang Daycare Center, previously located on the third floor, was relocated to the first floor, allowing senior citizens to use the facility more comfortably and safely. The gym, formerly on the first floor, was newly established on the third floor, now equipped with 32 types of exercise machines so residents can enjoy working out in a clean environment. The swimming pool on the basement level was also fully renovated, and satisfaction among residents is expected to increase as a result.
The Hyochang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center has been open since December 1. The gym on the third floor and the swimming pool on the basement level are being operated on a trial basis throughout December to inspect equipment and gather feedback, and a variety of programs will be added for full-scale operation starting in January next year.
The district held a reopening ceremony on December 12, attended by more than 200 people, including center users, local residents, and officials from related organizations.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan District, stated, "I am pleased that after more than a year of construction, the Hyochang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center can now offer a more pleasant and safe environment for its users," and added, "We will continue to support the center so that it can establish itself as a key hub for welfare and grow together with the local community."
