On December 12, Pohang City commemorated the 14th anniversary of the passing of the late Cheongam Park Taejoon, Honorary Chairman of POSCO, by visiting the Cheongam Park Taejoon statue located in the POSTECH Nobel Garden to offer flowers and pay respects.

Deputy Mayor Jang Sanggil, Pohang City Council Chairman Kim Ilman, council leadership, and senior officials participated in the flower-laying ceremony, taking a moment of silence to reflect on Cheongam's spirit.


Honorary Chairman Park Taejoon was a pioneer who led the modernization of Korea's industry by establishing the Pohang Steelworks in Yeongil Bay with his strong will and leadership. He also emphasized the importance of nurturing future talent by founding Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), presenting a future vision for Pohang that spans industry, science and technology, and education.


His noble legacy continues to serve as an important value for regional development to this day.


Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "Cheongam Park Taejoon led Pohang to become a global steel city with his indomitable spirit that 'there is no such thing as absolute despair,' and he sowed the seeds of education for the future. To overcome the current external challenges, we must once again embrace the Cheongam spirit and lead Pohang toward a new leap forward."
