KOSDAQ Also Ends Higher
On December 12, the KOSPI closed above the 4,160 mark, rising more than 1%.
On this day, the KOSPI finished trading at 4,167.16, up 56.54 points (1.38%) from the previous session.
Institutional investors and foreigners made net purchases of 1.4191 trillion won and 47 billion won, respectively, driving the index higher. In contrast, individual investors recorded a net selling of 1.4626 trillion won.

The KOSPI opened at 4,123.83, up 0.32% from the previous session, and continued to gain momentum throughout the day.
Semiconductor-related stocks performed strongly, buoyed by Broadcom’s earnings surprise. On December 11 (local time), Broadcom announced that its fourth-quarter revenue for fiscal year 2025 increased by 28% year-on-year to 18.02 billion dollars.
As a result, Samsung Electronics rose by 1.49%, and SK Hynix gained 1.06%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, all advanced except for LG Energy Solution, which slipped 0.11%. Samsung Biologics, Hyundai Motor, Doosan Enerbility, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Kia all posted gains of 1% to 3%.
Hanwha Aerospace notably surged by 6.31%. This was due to the Australian government’s approval for Hanwha Aerospace to increase its stake in an Australian shipbuilding company. Hanwha Aerospace can now hold up to a 19.9% stake in Austal. Since Hanwha Aerospace will expand its stake in Austal, which earns about 80% of its revenue in the United States, its U.S. business is expected to gain further momentum.
Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance plummeted by 22.30%. The previous day, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance started at 495,500 won, up 0.92%, and remained flat throughout the day before surging by 28.31% to close at 630,000 won, resulting in its designation as an investment caution stock. The sharp rise in Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance’s share price the previous day was attributed to large-scale spot purchases triggered by some investors liquidating their positions.
The KOSDAQ finished at 937.34, up 2.70 points (0.29%) from the previous session.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Ecopro BM (up 1.27%) and Rainbow Robotics (up 1.91%) rose. In contrast, Ecopro (down 1.24%), ABL Bio (down 3.21%), Kolon TissueGene (down 0.37%), Legochem Biosciences (down 5.93%), HLB (down 0.41%), Peptron (down 1.47%), and Samchundang Pharm (down 3.38%) declined.
In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the dollar-won exchange rate closed at 1,473.7 won, up 0.7 won from the weekly closing price at 3:30 p.m. the previous day.
