Gyeonggi Province to Advance AI-Integrated Child Meal Support Platform

Gyeonggi Province will further enhance its child meal services by using artificial intelligence (AI) not only for meal analysis but also for automated settlement and strengthened monitoring of improper use.

On December 10, Gyeonggi Province held the final briefing session for the "AI Integrated Child Meal Support Platform Advancement Project," introducing next-generation meal support features that utilize newly added AI and big data technologies.

The "Gyeonggi Province Child Meal Support Platform" is a system introduced in 2024 that allows the existing child meal card, which was previously limited to on-site face-to-face payments, to be used on "Baedal Teukgeup," Gyeonggi Province's public delivery app.

This platform is characterized by the addition of AI features to the existing system, enhancing meal quality, reducing administrative work, and improving transparency in subsidy execution.

First, a dedicated app is provided to children receiving meals and their guardians, offering AI-based meal and nutrition analysis services, GPS-based partner store search, and real-time balance inquiry, thereby improving the quality and convenience of meal services.

In addition, local child centers that provide group meals will benefit from an AI feature that enables automatic subsidy settlement simply by photographing receipts, reducing administrative burdens such as manual settlement.

Furthermore, municipal and county officials will be provided with big data-based budget execution and allocation functions, as well as real-time monitoring of improper use, which is expected to improve work efficiency. Gyeonggi Province plans to conduct a pilot operation of the system in the first half of next year and implement it fully in the second half.

Kwon Moonjoo, Director of Child Care at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through this project, we will be able to provide children with safer and more balanced meals while dramatically improving administrative efficiency and transparency."
