"I'll Go Get the Cash" ... Man in His 50s Arrested After Fleeing Jewelry Store with Gold Ring Disguised as Customer

A man in his 50s who pretended to be a customer at a jewelry store and fled while wearing a gold ring has been arrested and taken into custody by the police.

The Changwon Western Police Station in South Gyeongsang Province announced on December 5 that a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, has been arrested and referred for prosecution.

According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of stealing a gold ring worth approximately 1.6 million won from a jewelry store in Uichang-gu, Changwon, at around 1:56 p.m. on November 20, and then fleeing the scene.

He pretended to be interested in purchasing the gold ring, slipped it onto his finger, and told the owner he would return after withdrawing cash. He left an empty bag with the owner and then left the store, fleeing with the ring.

The store owner, a woman in her 70s identified as Ms. B, reported the incident to the police after Mr. A failed to return for a long time.

The police secured a description of Mr. A and conducted a campaign in the Uichang-gu area to raise awareness about jewelry theft. At around 2:00 p.m. on December 2, they found Mr. A at another jewelry store and arrested him on the spot.

During the police investigation, it was revealed that Mr. A had been living without a job or a fixed residence, and committed the crime to cover his living expenses.

It was reported that he sold the stolen gold ring and used the money for living expenses.

The police have arrested and referred Mr. A for prosecution and are investigating whether there are additional crimes involved.
