The Samsung Life Public Welfare Foundation held the '2025 Samsung Happiness Award Ceremony' at 3 p.m. on December 1 at the auditorium of the Leeum Museum of Art in Hannam-dong.
The Samsung Life Public Welfare Foundation has been operating the 'Samsung Happiness Award' since 2013. The award was established to strengthen the foundation of happiness in our society, promote social order and safety, support the vulnerable and improve social pathologies, and encourage the dreams and hopes of future generations, thereby contributing to the creation of a healthier and more sustainable society.
Until now, the Samsung Happiness Award has primarily focused on recognizing contributions to women's and filial piety culture. However, starting this year, the award categories have been newly reorganized to reflect changing times and social needs, aiming to encourage research and creative work for greater national happiness, promote a safer society, and spread a culture of integration and inclusion.
Accordingly, this year’s awardees include landscape architect Jung Youngsun (84) in the Research and Creativity category; Cho Seungno (52), team leader of the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, in the Society and Safety category; Lim Jungtaek (41), CEO of Hyanggi Naeneun Saramdeul, in the Integration and Inclusion category; and five students in the Youth category: Jung Yeonseong (24, Daegu National University of Education, 4th year), Gil Hyun (20, Soonchunhyang University, 2nd year), Lee Hyeonseo (19, Kyungnam University, 1st year), Park Chanwoo (18, Sinjeong High School, 3rd year), and Bae Gyeongin (17, Hyoam High School, 2nd year). A total of eight individuals were selected as awardees. Each recipient received a trophy and a prize of 50 million won per category (10 million won for each youth awardee).
Suh Jeongdon, Chairman of the Samsung Life Public Welfare Foundation, congratulated the awardees, saying, "The dedication, passion, and warm actions of the recipients, who have quietly led positive change for a better society in their respective fields, have become a driving force for our society to become healthier and happier."
Jang Myungsoo, former Chairperson of Ewha Haktang, remarked in her congratulatory address, "This year’s newly reorganized Happiness Award, reflecting the founding spirit of promoting public welfare and national happiness, is a meaningful step toward deepening and expanding the philosophy and social responsibility embodied by this award," adding, "Thanks to the stories of the recipients, the happiness temperature of our society has surely risen by a few degrees this winter."
Meanwhile, to celebrate the awardees, the Samsung Life Public Welfare Foundation also organized visits to ongoing exhibitions at the Leeum Museum of Art and to an art therapy exhibition for children and adolescents at Seoul Metropolitan Children's Hospital. In addition, a commemorative concert was held featuring world-renowned opera singer Kwangchul Youn and pianist Park Eunsik.
