Director Jin Hyuk's New Series: Crime Action Centered on Counterfeit Money
Kwak Dowon's Drama Comeback After DUI Incident
"Villains," the new work from director Jin Hyuk-known for directing "Sisyphus: The Myth," "The Legend of the Blue Sea," and "Master’s Sun"-is finally being unveiled.
Tving announced on December 1 that this original series will be released on December 18. It will be simultaneously released in 17 Asia-Pacific countries through HBO Max, and will also be available in Japan via Disney+ Japan.
"Villains" is a crime action series depicting the clash and confrontation among villains over a supernote, an ultra-high-precision counterfeit bill. The screenplay was written by director Kim Hyungjun, who also directed the film "No Mercy."
Yoo Jitae plays Jay, a crime strategist with a 100% success rate who operates under a mysterious codename. Lee Minjung takes on the role of Han Suhyeon, the top banknote design artist. Lee Beomsoo portrays Cha Kitae, a former National Intelligence Service financial crime task force leader determined to catch Jay, while Kwak Dowon plays Jang Junghyuk, a corrupt detective who steals money from thieves.
This series marks Kwak Dowon's return to television. In September 2022, he was charged with drunk driving in Jeju Island with a blood alcohol content of 0.158%, and the following year received a summary order to pay a 10 million won fine. As a result, the series, originally set for release in 2023, was postponed indefinitely, and its release was only confirmed three years after filming wrapped. This will be Kwak Dowon's first appearance before viewers since "Never Give Up" in 2022.
