The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on November 26 that Daegu ranked first nationwide with an employment rate of 67.8% for vocational high school graduates in February 2025, according to the "2025 Vocational High School Graduate Employment Statistics" released by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Educational Development Institute.
The employment rate for vocational high school graduates in Daegu was 67.8%, which is 12.6 percentage points higher than the national average of 55.2%. This figure also represents a 2.5 percentage point increase from the previous year's 65.3%, continuing the region's growth trend.
While the national average employment rate slightly declined by 0.1 percentage points to 55.2% compared to the previous year, Daegu's rate rose by 2.5 percentage points, demonstrating the effectiveness of its student-centered curriculum.
Additionally, Daegu had the lowest rate of students with undecided career paths at 13.6% nationwide, confirming the effective operation of its employment and career support system.
The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education attributed these achievements to its field-oriented vocational education policies and close cooperation with the local community and industry.
The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education has held more than three "Superintendent-Invited Corporate Network CEO Meetings" annually to discuss the direction of industry-tailored talent development. These discussions are reflected in the curriculum, strengthening both job training and vocational ethics education.
Furthermore, Daegu is simultaneously pursuing both quantitative growth and qualitative improvement in employment by restructuring departments to focus on future high-tech industries, expanding corporate-customized and regionally anchored employment support programs, broadening work-study and apprenticeship programs based on real workplace experience, and operating the Vocational Education Innovation District.
In particular, with Yeongnam Technical High School in Daegu selected as one of ten "Contract-Type Specialized High Schools" nationwide by the Ministry of Education this year, the sustainable local talent ecosystem is expected to be further strengthened through long-term employment agreements with local companies and the operation of customized curriculums.
Kang Eunhee, Superintendent of the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "This achievement is the result of collaboration among students, schools, companies, and the local community," and added, "We will continue to provide tailored vocational education support so that every student can confidently pursue their desired career path, and we will further solidify the Daegu-style vocational education model that directly links education to employment."
