One Year Until First Move-In for Phase 3 New Towns... Metropolitan Committee Urges Rapid Completion of Transportation Infrastructure

Chairman Kim Yongseok Visits Incheon Gyeyang and Bucheon Daejang Districts
Personally Inspects Progress of Wide-Area Transportation Infrastructure Projects

Kim Yongseok, Chairman of the Metropolitan Area Wide-Area Transportation Committee at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, urged relevant agencies on the 25th to accelerate the completion of transportation measures such as the Beolmal-ro and Ojeong-ro expansion projects, emphasizing, "Since Incheon Gyeyang is set for the earliest move-in among the third-phase new towns in December next year and Bucheon Daejang in November 2027, these transportation solutions must be completed swiftly."

Visiting the Incheon Gyeyang and Bucheon Daejang public housing districts that day, Chairman Kim stated, "The Metropolitan Area Wide-Area Transportation Committee will actively serve as a mediator in resolving various conflicts and disagreements that may arise during the project implementation process." He added, "Relevant agencies should do their utmost to promptly address any obstacles under the guiding principle of ensuring transportation convenience for residents and complete the projects on schedule so that these areas can become leading examples for other new towns."

The Incheon Gyeyang and Bucheon Daejang districts visited by Chairman Kim are large-scale public housing sites with a combined area 2.3 times the size of Yeouido (approximately 6.78 million square meters), with a total of 36,000 housing units to be supplied. These areas are being developed as integrated cities featuring advanced industries, comfortable residential environments, and abundant green spaces.

To secure wide-area mobility in the Seoul metropolitan area, the government is pursuing the expansion of major arterial roads such as Beolmal-ro, Ojeong-ro, and Sosa-ro, as well as the construction of a northern bypass road in the Daejang district (connecting Beolmal-ro and Daejang-ro). Additionally, new interchanges (ICs) are planned for the Incheon International Airport Expressway, Gwangmyeong-Seoul Expressway, and Gyeongin Expressway.

On the same day, Chairman Kim personally inspected the progress of the wide-area transportation infrastructure project at the Incheon Gyeyang Section 2 site, identifying factors causing project delays and challenges, and discussed solutions with relevant agencies.
