Formation of "Early Childhood Education Special Committee" Completed by the National Education Commission on November 25
"Seeking Alternatives to Private Education That Ignores Young Children's Developmental Stages"
The National Education Commission completed the formation of the "Early Childhood Education Special Committee" on November 25, with the aim of identifying policy tasks aligned with the developmental stages of young children and seeking effective alternatives.
On this day, the Commission held an "Early Childhood Education Special Committee Appointment Ceremony" at the Government Complex Seoul and convened its first meeting.
The Special Committee will be chaired by Kim Sungyeol, Honorary Distinguished Professor at Kyungnam University.
The committee members include Gong Byungho, Adjunct Professor at the Graduate School of Policy Studies at Sookmyung Women's University; Kim Daewook, Professor of Early Childhood Education at Gyeongsang National University; Kim Eunjung, Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs; Kim Eunju, Professor of Early Childhood Education at Pusan National University; Kim Jongsun, Head Teacher at Yongin Aram Kindergarten; Noh Boram, Professor of Child Studies at Jeonbuk National University; Park Yushin, Director of Songpa Dreaming Children's Daycare Center; Seok Kwangwoo, Director of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Southern Early Childhood Experience Education Center; Song Geumsuk, Head of the Educational Operations Department at Chungcheongnam-do Office of Education Early Childhood Education Center; Lee Haena, Head of the Special Education Support Center at Suwon Education Support Office in Gyeonggi Province; Jung Sugyeong, Director of Yangjae 2-dong Daycare Center; and Choi Young, Professor at the Department of Social Welfare at Chung-Ang University. In total, 13 experts from the fields of early childhood education, childcare, academia, and research, as well as practitioners, have been appointed as committee members.
The Early Childhood Education Special Committee will operate for the next six months, identifying policy tasks and seeking effective alternatives to promote the healthy development and growth of young children.
In particular, the committee plans to review and propose mid- to long-term improvement measures regarding the strengthening of national responsibility for early childhood education and care, support for young children's development and health management, and the issue of excessive private education for young children.
Cha Jeongin, Chairperson of the National Education Commission, stated, "There is growing public concern about excessive education that does not consider children's developmental stages, such as the recent serious forms of early private education. I ask the committee members to provide policy improvement recommendations based on their expertise and field experience, focusing on what is fundamentally necessary for children's growth."
